It's been too long since one of my existential EPUB/digital publishing threads so let's go. #eprdctn#epub 3.3 is nearing publication, and things are mostly settled, which leaves us with the fun and/or terrifying question of "what's next"?
If you're interested, the Publishing activity at the W3C is holding a "salon" September 13 to explore and brainstorm on ideas like this. Remote participation is welcome, but if you happen to be at #w3cTPAC you're welcome in person. You can register here: w3.org/2022/09/digpubsalon
The group will develop a specification for Private Attribution Measurement, which would enable to privately measure advertisement attribution/conversion rates without revealing whether any individual user converts or not. github.com/patcg/private-mea…
This is proposed charter for a new Private #Advertising Technology Working Group, set to specify web features and APIs that support advertising while acting in the interests of users, in particular providing strong privacy assurances. w3.org/2022/08/PROPOSED-PATW…
But no matter how good @w3c_systeam is at keeping our systems running (and good they are!) and at mitigating these negative impacts, it's probably best for everyone not to rely on w3.org being available for their production systems.
The @w3c_systeam is evaluating redirecting w3.org to https-only and in that process, trying to assess what exceptions or timeline may be required to minimize negative impact.
