I don’t buy it. Ultimately, I will have to prove my code does not infringe, and that seems a significant risk. That I have used a tool will not magically absolve me of blame in a court of law

If you use GitHub Copilot, you should at least be aware that it will ultimately be you, not GitHub/Microsoft, who will be responsible for the code you create and will be held accountable
github copilot has, by their own admission, been trained on mountains of gpl code, so i'm unclear on how it's not a form of laundering open source code into commercial works. the handwave of "it usually doesn't reproduce exact chunks" is not very satisfying
