I've been a grump about property-based testing because I bought into the conclusion of Hamlet&Taylor's 1990 "Partition testing does not inspire confidence", site.uottawa.ca/~gvj/papers/… Have any property-testing people engaged with that argument? It's time for my mind to be changed.

Reminds me of one system I reviewed that had a separated, decentralized subsystem called “ordertaker”. Even when everything else broke down, this was the one thing that kept running no matter what

CSR = every JS "framework" you've seen in the last 10 years. Takes all the complexity of 40+ years of programming and makes it your browser's problem, hobbled by a poorly designed language. But SINGLE PAGE APPS and VIRTUAL DOM yo!

Rendering: generating the HTML your browser will render. SSR: Generating HTML on the server. Gets passed to the browser and plopped into the DOM verbatim CSR: Data gets sent back to the browser, gets munged by client in JS, then plopped into the DOM.

Turning off video and muting yourself *is* more polite than just walking out of a room or closing the door in someone’s face, agreed

Maybe it should be called “Disturb mode” and you should have to switch it on explicitly

Luckily for you, your country (like mine) is one of those where that trust is an actual viable alternative

I did (a while ago). None of the PoW alternatives, including PoS, have proven themselves to be a viable alternative yet, AFAICT. I do have hopes that they will

(Of course many people I respect have been saying that for a long time, but I still think the approach itself is worthwhile in principle and too easily dismissed. The enthusiasts have failed to actually prove them wrong in case of this particular application so far, though.)

Still quite sure that a global-scale monetary system based on a PoW #blockchain would be worth the energy cost. I’ve held on to hope for quite some time, but as of now, #Bitcoin hasn’t reached that goal, nor is it close to doing so. I’m ready to declare that experiment a failure.

Hot take: Spreadsheets are still one of the absolute top genius inventions in computing. Making a computer do something useful for yourself & others is the main valuable thing. Making that power available to more people is more valuable than any bragging rights about coding
