You’re welcome. spiegel.de/wissenschaft/coro…

True! This always requires an effort. It’s very stupid that the presentation tools don’t provide a decent mode for remote presentations (presenting in a window only helps if you don’t use presenter views)
I recently noticed how much more I liked doing presentations in a regular Zoom call where a bunch of people had switched on their video. Of course not comparable to the real thing, but infinitely better than talking into the void

Dirty secret: Giving talks to virtual conferences is exhausting. Speakers need feedback to know that the audience is following, even if it is a subtle "the guy in the second row is nodding his head."

This is one of the reasons I would love to try @heyhey for our company email. Sad that GDPR and the lack of (at least optional) end-to-end encryption prevent it
HEY blocks spy trackers from 50+ services. When you open an email, your IP, your brand of phone, how many times you open an email, and your general location is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS. HEY automatically protects you 24/7/365. hey.com/spy-trackers/

Reached that point where I am facing the perennial software-architectural question, “Do I draw boxes with arrows between them, or do I scream eternally into the void?”

What a fantastic talk! Apparently being an opera singer also prepares you to be a great speaker
I am so proud to present a recording of my first ever tech conference talk!🎉 This was a Pecha Kucha (~6min) presentation given at OOP 2021 "Software As Business" conference two weeks ago. 🔗youtube.com/watch?v=BwEYvHG2…

Mich würde wahnsinnig interessieren, was man mit einem so verbreiteten, gezwungenermaßen oberflächlichen Know-how anfangen will. Eine Basisqualifikation in Sachen Digitalisierung erschiene mir sehr viel sinnvoller. Klingt aber vermutlich nicht cool genug.

I'm pretty sure I would prefer 150 lines of Bash to 150 lines of YAML with bits of Bash trapped in it and opaque references to other bits of YAML in other repositories and a nonlinear relationship to actual execution order and no idea which names are magic and which are arbitrary

It’s very similar to the German concept of “Kurzarbeit”, which has worked quite well here in numerous crises

I’m a big fan of the concept, but I still agree
I’m not as negative, particularly if I can get at least some audience interaction (e.g. in a Zoom call instead of a Youtube stream). But I completely agree that it’s not comparable to the “real thing”, and I’m very much looking forward to that, despite the travel
