It's weird seeing industry friends criticise Facebook for this. Yes, Facebook have their own interests, but free linking is fundamental to this whole web thing that we love, and the Aussie law is opposed to that.

In fact I would argue that this is one of the major selling points of microservices approaches for large organizations. They’ve all had huge non-updatable monoliths happen to them. I’ve never seen these as an advantage in this regard.

I second this observation. We have done a ton of architecture reviews for clients who were stuck with some old combination of libraries with their multi-million-LOC Java monolith, with no meaningful chance of upgrades
