I really like the innovation in blockchain and believe Bitcoin is a positive disruption, but even I find it hard to justify the energy consumption with its current benefits

What are benefits of bitcoin? It certainly was an interesting idea but afaik tell it completely failed except as a target for betting.

At least I don't see how something that is effectively controlled by few unknown people with the most computing power can be trustable or a good thing.
