I’d actually argue it’s removing barriers, and I also used “should”, not “must”. YMMV.
It’s not. It’s removing barriers for consumers, e.g. listeners with hearing problems. Or search engine crawlers :)

I also think podcasts should have good audio (although this particular episode falls short of that goal). I vastly prefer placing burdens on producers if it has benefits for consumers.

I completely agree these benefits come at a cost, and place an additional burden on the producer. We haven’t found any impressive tooling that helps, unfortunately. I just think they’re absolutely worth it. It’s fine to disagree.
