It seems a tool for building and collaborating on slides with the source code approach of Reveal and the usability of Keynote will remain a pipe dream forever

Are you talking about writing RevealJS HTML from the ground up? If you do, take a look at Asciidoctor, which you can use as well, e.g. github.com/CodeFX-org/slides…
