Monolithic: formed or composed of material without joints or seams. ie not modular. Complex systems can/shld be modular, ergo not monolithic

Surely any system of any complexity is monolithic? Regardless of how its implemented, no matter how it's arranged, still a single 'system'.

Systems made of multiple loosely-coupled components that happen to be deployed in the same process shouldn't be called monolithic.

True, in theory, deployment monoliths can be highly modular internally. Sadly, in practice they often are not
