By that logic, what about having a degree? Or being able to program in the first place? Isn’t that a sign of privilege too?

Don’t get me wrong: *Expecting* people to work in their spare time is wrong IMO, too

But while privilege plays a huge, huge role in your current level of skill or knowledge, that doesn’t mean an employer can’t ask for it
