I don’t use a VPN, even on public WiFi, because I don’t use any unsecured protocols (except for occasional public HTTP). Am I being naïve?

b/c HTPS does not encrypt everything. Some can see the hosts, also IP meta data. Not only content is interesting.

That’s mostly privacy-related; I don’t have much an issue with someone collecting metadata about me while I’m on their public WiFi. YMMV.

For some value of “know”, yes. At least for mail, browser, calendar, messenger, chat, app store.
