I switched to simply using Twitter via its web interface a while ago. Surprisingly usable except for the super-chatty notifications view.

but don't you really miss the thrill of dismissing twenty consecutive "reconnect to live stream" @twitter app windows every couple of hours?

Right, they were one of the things that annoyed me tremendously, so the answer is no.
