Exactly :-( Trying to tease apart concepts of unit of deployment from application architecture. It's tricky!

To me, the whole point of microservices is that deployment architecture and software architecture are closely aligned

Isn't that what we did with our monoliths? Our deployables perfectly represented our three-tiered architecture: Database, backend, frontend.

they _can_ be...it's far too easy to create a distributed monolith...for me, main thing is easy replaceability of the pieces + Conway effect
