"Prefer models over diagrams" I said yesterday at #ndcoslo ... this doesn't necessarily mean UML, SysML or ArchiMate though.

Had a couple of interesting discussions after my #ndcoslo talk about how existing modelling tools force you into using a specific notation.

By the way, I also prefer models over diagrams. A lot of discussion going on right now in SysML community about flexible views of models.

Yes, I do see people associate "model" with a specific notation.

Incidentally, UML got it right by explicitly separating models (abstract syntax + semantics) from diagrams (concrete syntax).

... so UML tools can potentially interoperate yet use different notations (like diagrams vs. text)
