ebooks in the browser, starting from the assumption that you have #EPUB resources on the web. no way around something like this...

that, on the other hand, may not be great. but the fact remains that packaging/delivery is an issue and there's no web-tech for it.

it's heavily app-focused, but w3.org/TR/appmanifest/ indeed is the way to go, looking at a book as an "offline-capable web app".
