Am I being naïve in assuming the manipulating of your timeline is one of the major differences between Facebook and Twitter?

@stilkov people don't join to have their timeline curated by an algorithm, but they stick because an algorithm does that.

@stilkov you could disable filtering on FB, most people (including me) just don't do it. Just switch to "sort by latest".
@stilkov in fairness, twitter is asymmetric: you curate your timeline.
FB is symmetric, yet people people don't like information overload.
