I used to be a reluctant #blockchain enthusiast. After a few years of failing to see any of the potential benefits materialize, I have to admit I was wrong and the critics were right.

If you want a decentralized cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin (a very big “if” indeed), a blockchain remains the only mature approach. But apart from questioning that as a thing worth pursuing, I have seen absolutely 0 successful applications of that approach anywhere.

Every attempt to make it work made it to prototype/pilot status at best, and in each and every case, a centralized solution ended up being the better option. I’m late, but to me, too, the #blockchain hype is over.

Blockchain is a data prison that allows no exit - ever - for the stored data. The only way to keep it working for the long term is to restart it periodically and that simply invalidates the technology for almost every use case you may think of.

Although I had a different opinion from you on that topic I still very much enjoyed what you wrote and said about it. You were one of the few in this area who showed a very balanced view and provided some actuall food for thought :)

I wouldn't write it off yet. I've never been super hyped about it but I still see its benefits. For me, it's literally in the "trough of disillusionment" of the hype cycle. Maybe it'll take the next decades to figure out how to use it in a productive way.
