The country I live in seems to have given up, basically every supermarket requires a coin deposit to unlock the cart

Where I live the grocery stores make a token you can put into the cart instead so you dont need to put in money. But theyre freely available so just take a new token whenever you want

In UK the supermarkets will sell you a token the same size and weight as £1 that you can use instead. The cost? £1.50! tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/pr…

Still shopping carts without coin slots in this country near you. It doesn't seem to cause a huge problem with abandoned carts all over the parking lot, so maybe Rewe could give it a go in Germany as well.
Here (Italy) we started the opposite, we always required coins and now I see many places not requiring them anymore
So annoying because most of the time I can’t find a proper coin. My workaround ist to use the upper part of my apartment key. Works like a charm for the supermarkets… I always keep exemplary care of my cart :-P

At the „Globus“ supermarket here in Braunschweig, no coins are needed and it works as good as at supermarkets which force you to use coins to get a ahopping cart.
