Mastodon has gone from 2.5 million active users in early December to 1.8 million last week. As an active user of Mastodon, it’s not a Twitter replacement. Too many missing communities and too many missing features. It’s good enough if you’re in infosec. theguardian.com/news/datablo…

Mastodon has also been a great proof point as to why algorithmic feeds exist. A chronological feed based on what time of day people post with no content discovery isn’t a great experience compared to trying to show you the most interesting content regardless of when & who posted.

I’m always super annoyed when Twitter switches me to Home instead of Latest, and immediately switch back. So I’ve not missed anything in that regard on Mastodon
