In my twenties, I had the strong opinion that all good prog-rock was already done in the 70s and 80s. Now I just wonder if I got tired of it and that’s why I think most new bands are boring

Context is critical. Like most such things, it was novel and exciting in its first years. Early prog was mind-blowing because it was still inventing itself. Safe to say, it's pretty thoroughly invented now. I think once a thing has a name, it's doomed to die.

*Very* good! It just doesn't capture my fascination the way the first waves did. Of course, I could say the same for almost *any* creative breakthrough. But there are always exceptions.
