I remember when developers cared about *only* writing business code. Every bit of technical code was deemed bad. Today, all developers seem / are supposed to care about is Kubernetes. It’s as if they don’t have to build actual apps anymore. All they do is deploy them. 🤷‍♂️

I have the feeling that many developers did NOT enjoy writing business code. They just had to 😅 With DevOps the possibility to escape from the hassle with the business and its vague rules emerged. And now many programmers enjoy to plunge into technical code, the Ops part. 🙏🏻

I have a slide that I’ve used for years, labeling the sentiment “domain allergy”. It’s a common disease among technically competent developers, and I’ve observed it for at least the last three decades :)

I am just constantly surprised that the rise of microservices, that focus on providing business value faster, have bred a generation of developers that – if you believe dev marketing – are primarily busy with thinking about and configuring infrastructure.

It’s sad, I am of the domain-addict variety, but it feels like everyone around me wants to “dumb” everything down - just write some sql query or otherwise take away the modeling fun - and I can’t deploy into production quickly for the efforts of the domain allergic folks either!
