Like the old person I am, I still don’t like people retweeting praise about their own content. It not only feels like bragging, it’s also extremely boring

Everyone's crawling over everyone trying to be cool on this damned social media. The medium is the message.

I don't mind if the content is not an empty shell. I've discovered many things that way.

Dunno; not everyone has 10K+ followers, so retweeting some praise is one way to e.g. turn more attention to a blog post written and shared by someone with not as many followers, which otherwise would be lost in the timeline very quickly.

Not everyone that follows is convinced. Seeing what others think can be a service. It is certainly self serving, too. On the other hand, I see too often excitement about shallow concepts, while deeper ones stay hidden because conceptual people do not brag (or praise).

I feel the same thing about the tweets that I paid attention to in the 1st place. This seems to be the Twitter version of testimonials. As for everything ads, "conversion" takes "convincing" (it doesn't occur immediately or on the first interaction.)

Not a good experience for existing "customers", but many need new customers.

I think that kind of shame of showing off different angles of your own work is just plain self handicapping.
