Stupidly, I gave in to using #WhatsApp a while ago. Luckily, I’m not dependent on it. I’ll switch to @signalapp, which is quite awesome both technically as well as from the business model perspective, and try to convince as many people as possible to do so, too

When I moved many years ago, I lost contact with a whole bunch of folks that didn't care about privacy.

And it is a personal question if losing those contacts is worth the switch.

For some people, it’s critical, e.g. because their employer, school or other organization they need to interact with (sadly) requires it

Yes. Same here. But I rage quit it all. Told school, activities, etc. If they needed to reach me there were other means.
