1/ Today for the first time I was on a thread where someone said “for this project the customer requires we certify we’re using no AWS, for policy reasons.” I said “Huh?!” They said “Oh, they see Amazon as a competitor.”

Amazon has been a competitor to Netflix since they started. Would you rather compete with Amazon with inferior tools, or the same tools Amazon uses?

I’ve been in that discussion with (potential) clients at least a dozen times, and have been using your argument ever since I first heard you use it in our podcast :) Most of the time, they’re not convinced, but most change their mind a couple years later

That if you’re a competitor to Amazon, giving them the advantage of using a better infrastructure than yours doesn’t make sense

It’s easy to be happy about using the same services that Amazon does and simultaneously unhappy about those services’ profit margin flowing to Amazon when they’re your competitor.
