I think that Elon Musk is (sometimes) great. I also think he’s (way too often) an asshole and (occasionally) incredibly stupid. Weird. It’s almost as if people are complicated and can be multiple different things at once. Admiring might be just as wrong as hating them, maybe?

I think it’s totally okay to admire people for what they have achieved without at the same time expecting that they must be perfect in all other ways, too.

Admire his brilliance, correct his words when you don't agree with them. And above all, I'm pretty sure you ought to be aware of this, yet it bears telling. He's human. The statement if disagreeable is a statement. The part you find incorrect is words; not Mr musk.

I didn’t keep up with everything he did in the past, but so far the good he does IMO greatly overshadows the stupid/bad. I’m impressed by how much he gets done and how relentless he is at achieving his goal, no matter how hard he has to work or how often he fails.

It was pretty badass when he open sourced all of his patents. Also when he smoked weed on that podcast. Not so badass when he injected himself into that cave diver situation on the other side of the planet to hurl insults. People are people, not to be worshipped.

As many other comments say, it's not all black and white. And I think that the case of Elon Musk confirms that there is only a fine line between genius and madness in many driven and successful people :)

Of course. However it is much easier for us, humans, to think binary. This guy - bad. This guy - good.

The issue is not him being a (fallible) human, the issue is him having disproportionate wealth and platform. As with any billionaire.

Makes sense for the guy you see at the store once in a while, but being an (influential) asshole at scale takes it to a different arena.
