Alright, after three months of relatively strict self-isolation at home, I’m now embarking on a five-day cross-country trip through The Corona Times for a family thing™ that can’t be avoided. I’ll be documenting mit experience in this thread.

First off, I'm acknowledging my incalculable privilege that this is "my first trip out". For enough people, that never went away and was a lot scarier when we knew less about the virus spread.

Second, I'm scared shitless. The virus is vile and I don't wish having to go through the illness on anyone, including myself and my family. Yes I'm scared even though we are handling this relatively well in Germany.

My itinerary includes a cab (with partition): 20 minutes. Train: 4h and a rental car from there on out. I tried to book train seats to maximise the chance of nobody sitting behind me, but anything can happen of course.

Good observation here from @LAUTschrift. Part of why I'm doing this thread is to deal with my own anxieties about the trip ✌️ mobile.twitter.com/LAUTschri…

I think your worries are justified and you are handling yourself well. I hope this thread helps release a bit of your tension and doesn't perpetuate it. Good luck with the family thing. :) And be well!

Berlin central station is about 30% full compared to The Before Times™. Most people practice sensible distancing.👍 I'm on a train, awaiting departure. 🚄

Got lucky so far with seating. Folks are in chess-horse-distance around me which I can deal with 😅 Though I'm the only one of the ~10 folks around me, that permanently wears a mask 😷 I'm scolding them with dagger-eyes at every opportunity 👀

With no relevance whatsoever, I feel compelled to point out the horse is a knight in English, as I recently learned. Don’t bother, I’ll see myself out.

If you're into fun chess facts, the Bishop is in French called Fou which literally means the crazy one.

I'm assuming chess-horse-distance is just one big word in German
