Any approach which starts with a technology prescription is silly. But I agree that any approach where engineers and architects "imagine" what is required is doomed.

However once you know WHAT you need to do then starting with the contract for that service is a very good place to start and a good thing to get right.

I agree that once you’re sure you know what service you want to build (including that you even want to build it in the first place), doing it contract-first is a good idea
