Agreed. After a few years of using it, I find the idea that Slack et al would reduce communication overload completely ridiculous.
I really don’t understand why people hate on email so much... I feel like it is nearly perfect communication medium for actually getting things done. Asynch, triage-able, seach, forces process discipline, open platform, etc

The main downside of emails is its lack of mainstream E2E encryption.

That definitely is a downside, agreed. Not sure Slack has any advantages over a company-internal mail server though

Email is great... I think there are lots of battle scars from Lotus Notes and Outlook in its old days. Today with o365 or gsuite I have no complaints... but notes... oh my... where my blanky? Slack replaced my phone, not my email :)

Email is great because its easier to ignore people on email. SMS, Whatsapp, Slack etc are great when you actually want to engage on a topic interactively. I just wish that any of them had the 'scoring' mechanism that Emacs had for Usenet.

Slack reduced email, but didn't improve flow or structure. What it has done is increase interruptions and the sense of urgency that everyone feels things have.
