If this is true, I’ve indeed believed quite a few things that aren’t. Any pointers to a reasonable debate on this?

Here’s another article that doesn’t downplay the seriousness, but also does not lay all the blame on Bolsonaro and his henchmen: theconversation.com/amazon-f…

I heard about the critical tipping point thing that the Amazon could degenerate as a whole if a few more percent are destroyed. ("uninhabitable earth" from Wallace-Wells)

Also worth researching Shellenberger's current interests. Being environmentalist for a long time, today he calls himself environmodernist, having found a company "Environmental Progress" which is a group very actively lobbying for Nuclear environmentalprogress.org

Don't believe everything Michael Shellenberger says. Per him, all renewable energies are awful and the only way forward is nuclear fission energy, and risks related to radiation accidents and nuclear waste are completely negligible.

Weird that Forbes would have such a long article and neglect to mention that the fires are set intentionally.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say opposers of Bolsonaro are using this against him.

Quite a weird thing to read. There are no references for the numbers the writer seems to pull out of a hat. Even the one chart used to prove that the number of fires is "normal" is disproven by the agency that produced it in the first place: bbc.com/news/world-latin-ame…
