I did. A conspiracy does not have to be successful to be prosecuted or lead to conviction. The article’s premise is flawed because it is based on the lack of evidence the password cracking was even successful.

The reason it wasn’t pursued for years is because Assange was busy smearing poop on the walls of the Ecuadorian embassy, and US don’t have extradition treaty with them.

Certainly true. But given the nature of the charge -- a discussion 9 years ago about an unsuccessful attempt to figure out a password -- I think it's fair to debate whether this is a figleaf for the government punishing someone for publishing stuff it doesn't want published.
