Apparently hating Hofstadter’s GEB is the cool thing right now. I like it a lot, but not as much as “Le Ton beau de Marot”, which remains my favorite non-fiction book. I also like the author because he made me aware a man could be a feminist, about 25 years ago.

Sure, that’s certainly the reason. And I agree: Of course no one has to read it, and there surely are some people who feel superior because they did. They’re just as wrong as those who feel superior because they didn’t, or hated it.
