I didn't realize this before Twitter, but it's a good sign when the response to something you write is angry and incoherent. It means you wrote something novel enough to make people mad, and correct enough that you didn't leave room for actual refutation.

Another purely hypothetical reason might be that you wrote something that is actually too ignorant and offensive for people to want to argue its merits, but are too arrogant to even consider that possibility.

People refute even Trump, so if there's such a thing as too ignorant and offensive for people to want to argue its merits, it must be a pretty narrow territory.

I’d argue Trump and his supporters view the fact that they’re making those damn liberals angry as a sign that they’re right, too. Also, the president of the US is a little harder to ignore.
