In Germany, voting is done on Sundays. Seems like a very sane and obvious choice to me.

In Ireland elections are typically on a Friday because many students vote at home but go to college/university in a city like Dublin or Galway. The polls open late so they can get home for the weekend to vote (and do their laundry!). Tuesday as a voting day is a historical relic.

Over here, it is done on a weekday, but it is declared a public holiday so that people can vote.

Bad for those not getting out of bed before 6pm though.

Not a good excuse to keep shops closed on all Sundays though (that's how I'm reminded that Berlin is part of Germany whenever I'm there!) :)

In Australia we vote on a Saturday. And celebrate with sausages. #democracysausage
