I always thought that the most important contribution of @fielding 's work was the "architectural styles" framework, not REST by itself.

per @fielding's disseration, in order to achieve his desired architectural properties (chap02) and meet the WWW's domain requirements (chap04), he wanted to establish a set of required constraints (chap05). most ppl just focus on chap05 and i recommend focusing on chap02. 2/10

A surprising amount of that framework for comparison was my invention, but as a synergy of existing research on principled design and the documented properties of architectural styles (see refs). Taking union of multiple styles to counteract trade-offs was new, AFAIK 🤷‍♂️
