I would prefer a good binary serialization protocol over json, or any slightly readable but ill defined serialization protocol.

Never did CORBA, but did do DCOM. SOAP shared similar design problems, which might not be surprising given Don Box worked on both. At Morgan Stanley we were explicitly told only to use SOAP as a message envelope otherwise we would be fired :-)

#CORBA is a blast of the past. On the same time you could s/(module|object)/microservice/ in the article and you could find the same text 20years later. ;)
