Very true! Of course people also compare an idealized, perfectly designed monolith that hardly ever exists in the real world to a badly designed microservices architecture, too
The issue with monoliths vs. microservices is that people tend to compare a badly-designed monolith with an ideal microservices environment, which isn’t a fair comparison. With appropriate thought and effort a monolith can be a perfect fit to many situations.

Perfect. The German variant of this is 75% pseudo-English, anyway. I recommend beratersprech.tumblr.com as a great resource

I’ve made them available here, even though I didn’t end up using them: innoq.com/en/talks/2021/02/i… speakerdeck.com/stilkov/micr…

In fact I would argue that this is one of the major selling points of microservices approaches for large organizations. They’ve all had huge non-updatable monoliths happen to them. I’ve never seen these as an advantage in this regard.

I second this observation. We have done a ton of architecture reviews for clients who were stuck with some old combination of libraries with their multi-million-LOC Java monolith, with no meaningful chance of upgrades

Seems to be a Meetup issue. If it persists until tomorrow, we’ll find another way to share the link(s)

I think you should consider standardizing GML, and maybe even make it extensible while you’re at it

I’ve only played with Elm very briefly, but they seem to be at least as good AFAICT
First time I’ve played with #rustlang. What a nice and well thought-out language, with positively the best error messages I’ve seen anywhere so far

One of the big arguments that @Google uses to justify AMP is that private information (the preload) shouldn't be leaked to publishers. 🧵
