I actually think it’s a fantastic protocol

Good album, that one

“Defectos” sounds like a super villain to me

Many good points. But some new problems were created on the way, e.g. what if I *want* to share e.g. the cart, but can’t because it’s no longer addressable without the information hidden in the cookie? Cookies have all the advantages and disadvantages of global variables.

Give each shopping cart its own URL

Whatever auth info is currently sent as part of a cookie could (and should) have been standardized as an auth mechanism instead. This would of course require browser vendor support, which is why it will never happen except in an alternate reality

If that were the missing aspect, I’m quite sure someone would have done it. But by now way too much of the web economy relies on the bad decisions made two decades ago
3
I would strongly prefer one mechanism explicitly designed for auth instead of a generic one that’s easy to abuse and misuse
1
From the “hills I’m willing to die on” department: Cookies are 100% evil, they should never have been added to the web platform, and the world would be a better place if the HTTP auth mechanism had been continuously extended and improved instead

Ich bin ja sonst in der Regel Deiner Meinung, aber irgendwie ist der Begriff „Befreiung“ für den Tausch der Nazi- gegen die Sowjet-Diktatur vielleicht doch nicht so ganz passend.

If the modularity is based on framework-independent standards, yes

On the web, “no shared UI” does not mean you cannot use links, redirects, or some form of transclusion (server-side, client-side, via JS embeds or iframes). I don’t know of any native app environment that offers the same capabilities, so you’ll have to rely on modules/components

Der epische Artikel meiner Kollegin @nanoparsec zu »Design- und Entwicklungsprinzipien für ein besseres Frontend« ist bei @INNOQ nun auch online verfügbar: innoq.com/de/articles/2020/0…

It’s nice if your editor has a community that’s large enough to ensure plugins (“modes” in Emacs) will be created and maintained for things you’re interested in

Weird how Americans decided someone who should not be elected to public office is the best choice to compete against someone who should never have been elected to anything

I would argue that it can be, but would probably yield something that is more tightly coupled then I would prefer

Links, redirects, transclusion. It’s just a bunch of web apps after all.
