I can’t blame any organizer who hasn’t yet cancelled a conference scheduled for April or May. They hold out to the hope things will improve until then. That doesn’t mean they won’t cancel. It’s easy to say they should act differently if it’s not your salary that is in danger.

Maybe you mean “pre-rendering”? That involved running a headless browser on the server to generate static versions for specific URLs IIRC
If you didn’t run things somebody else would need to do so, and they would need to be paid. So how many hours/week do you need to work to keep it running (and evolve it reasonably)?
Fascinating; I’ve used the story about two dozen times in different talks (and it still supports my argument), but I have to admit I hadn’t read the original paper.
