It could be a multi-tier system. Even a fraction of its user base paying could generate significant money. And in a sane world, that would be more than sufficient to operate Twitter, although probably not to create the kind of return its investors are expecting.

Sometimes the Twitter mobile PWA crashes, and the only way to get it working again is to kill mobile Safari. Am I the only one seeing this?

I liked #RubyOnRails a lot when it was the coolest thing on earth. I still like it a lot now that it’s become somewhat uncool. With its own share of flaws, I still consider it the most productive environment for most web-based services, by far

No, but I rely on 20+ years of anecdotal evidence (= personal experience) to support this. Our company culture is based on this to a large degree, so I’m biased, though.
