In FB's case, there's a corporation that makes a ton of money off spreading fake news. Not the same thing as email at all.

Some sites openly admit to be fake news sites, but not even those are marked as such AFAICT by the social media giants
Looking at my own behavior, if I see a story exposed as fake on snope.com, I believe that information based on past experience

How much are sites like snopes.com believed in general? Do people think they're part of the other side's conspiracy?
I don't think that word means what you think it does :) It could either be part of e.g. Twitter's or Facebook's service, or some plug-in

I can understand why it might be hard to claim that something is true, but it's often quite easy to verify something is false
It would be fantastic if every news story, tweet, web page and facebook post were automatically fact-checked and marked accordingly
