In FB's case, there's a corporation that makes a ton of money off spreading fake news. Not the same thing as email at all.

Some sites openly admit to be fake news sites, but not even those are marked as such AFAICT by the social media giants
Looking at my own behavior, if I see a story exposed as fake on snope.com, I believe that information based on past experience

I don't think that word means what you think it does :) It could either be part of e.g. Twitter's or Facebook's service, or some plug-in
