Of course Maven and Subversion are not unusual at all, it's just that installing Eclipse from scratch makes you think they are

Though I've been neglecting the Java ecosystem for a while, I wasn't aware that Subversion and Maven were so unusual

@fakod I agree, but who is the judge? I say let everybody build what they like, and we'll see what people like best. It may well be Scala.
@fakod That argument leads nowhere; it means improving Java would have been better than creating Scala
Pondering whether or not to use OpenSearch for a RESTful interface; GData approach (define allowed query params) still feels wrong to me
@fakod I fail to understand why competition is bad; let Ceylon or Scala or whatever win through its advantages
