:-( RT @jreschke: oh cool, Step 15 of http://bit.ly/cx62Bk explains how to read a table; anybody still wondering why this spec is so long?

Replying to @bitboss
@bitboss Doesn't seem to me Oracle cares much about a "promo bonus" among developers.
Replying to @atownley
@atownley My preferred IDE is called Emacs, but then again, I no longer really spend my time in there.
Replying to @atownley
@atownley Apple will be dropping Java support from future OS X versions, see http://bit.ly/dxYEhJ
Replying to @MMahlberg
@MMahlberg Java is certainly doomed as a platform for client development; I concede that Apple has gotten that right.
Much as I love it, I fail to see developers switching their server platform just to be able to keep using OS X for development
Replying to @bitboss
. @bitboss What would Oracle gain by supporting Open JDK on OS X? Why would they care about OS X Java users if even Apple doesn't?
Thoughts on Apple deprecating Java. http://bit.ly/9ZuZmV

Replying to @dysinger
. @dysinger You're right, forgot about the UI X Window aspect. No chance unless someone ports it to Cocoa, then, which seems very unlikely.
Replying to @vogella
@vogella The cost must be quite high. It might be higher than the return. It depends on how much pissed-off Java developers cost
Apple's Java deprecation is mostly bad news for end user app developers, such as @beatunes, if IDEs can simply bundle OpenJDK
Thinking about it, dropping Java probably makes total business sense for Apple. Doesn't mean it sucks less for Java developers.

LOL. Fitting name RT @mrreynolds: @stilkov you could call it "mum mode" - interesting idea though.
Replying to @JerryPreissler
. @JerryPreissler Can't see Apple restricting Mac apps to the App Store only, certainly not within the next 10 years or so. But who knows…
Ouch RT @beaTunesApp: #Apple just killed #Java on (future versions of) OS X http://tinyurl.com/24vcexq http://fb.me/JwWw2C8D

Replying to @danielpietzsch
@pie4dan I agree, I don't think they'd do that – although we'll surely see a few thousand rants whining about the "closed" Mac
RT @dewitt: Oh, so now we need a competing "open" app store? I got your open app store right here: http://www.google.com/

Yes, I like the Mac App Store concept. Unless it becomes the only option for installing apps, in which case I'd hate it.

It might be interesting to allow app installation from everywhere for admins while restricting "normal" users to Mac App Store apps
