Indeed.
Quite often, architectural decisions – a.k.a. significant design decisions – are made not going to compelling technical reasons, but because of licensing, cost, perception, and community vibe.
As I am learning more about the history of container solutions, it strikes me as a little odd to read several eng blogs from 2020-21 about companies deciding they are moving off of Docker Swarm (and Docker) and onto Kubernetes. None the other way round.
What happened back then?
