most of the world has lost the will to do big things--incredible alpha now in working on a big project. most of the world has also lost the ability to think on a long time horizon. combine the two and you'll be really happy!

Wish this was easier to get into. 99% of careers and jobs including startups are very short-term focused.

I get what you're saying. But there is a struggle between present needs versus longterm commitments. I for one consider myself a longterm thinker. But that doesn't mean I am not bound by problems I have in the here and now—happiness is hindered in this struggle

Most of the world doesn’t have access to the tools of creation, specifically the innovation capital needed to do big things, and Silicon Valley VC culture is a big part of why that is.
U.S. Venture capital hasn't been able to outperform European VC for the past 20 years. The Thiel Andreessen generation of VC took one of the greatest engines of economic growth and American ingenuity, and turned it into an old world rent extraction scheme. theinformation.com/articles/…

Yes, and -- how do I get it funded? I'm trying right now to advance the (big cause, longtime horizon) of high-tech #QuantumBiology. Present funding environment is unfortunately not conducive to do big things that take time.

I think you're missing a crucial ingredient - means to try big things

Agreed, but count behavioral economics - how do you design a system of agents for longterm goals when there are short term incentives elsewhere for them? Esp difficult when your long term big goal is binary, or isolated maxima which doesn't pay in small steps 'on the way'

Ironically, I'm doing the opposite of this. Working on a very straightforward service-based business. I got burnt out on startups, trying to build something small and sustainable that gives me a foundation.

fear of failure is high, because everyone will know if you mess up. self correction is rare because it involves admitting you messed up. this is why the people actually trying and risking things tend to be irreverent and the dgf types
