the crazy thing to me is that the DoD hadn't insisted on paying spacex for starlink service in ukraine in the first place very sure other defense contractors get paid much more for much less value the people who want to make elon out to be the bad guy here just want attention

Wonder why Lockheed or Raytheon don’t send their “goods” for free to Ukraine but SpaceX somehow does. And after all, @elonmusk is a bad guy here???!!! What clowns

Exactly. You don’t see Lockheed sending free Himars or Raytheon free Stingers. Back in January, both their CEOs have openly boasted how the conflict will be a boon to their profits. One on CNBC and one in an earnings call.

Elon is getting hit with an “innovation tax” - if you have a unique highly visible highly impactful product, you somehow become the bad guy by asking to be paid for it! This doubly pisses me off as a SpaceX investor.

I think there are separate issues going on. I certainly agree that DoD should pay for Starlink (I think countries should build reusable rockets, but that’s a whole other topic). However Elon pushing for Ukraine to give up territory is what has most people up in arms (myself incl)

The Artemis SLS Rocket “Package” is like equal parts Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Lockeed. It’s as if each contractor carved out their portion of the contract.

I don’t think that SpaceX was contracted for this by DoD at all. If there is a contract I think it should be easily enforceable isn’t it?

I mean, we don't know who gave CNN this letter from Starlink to DoD was, and the details of what's been done in Ukraine are murky at best. People are saying a lot about very little, most notably Elon Musk himself. Unclear who in this story wants attention.

I mean have you ever seen the DoD acquisition process?

When Russians succeeded in jamming Starlink couple weeks ago, he got spooked. He admitted today that it’s costing SpaceX valuable dev time to keep up with Russians. That’s why he wanted out but now he understands he’s dealing with the MIC mafia.
