the crazy thing to me is that the DoD hadn't insisted on paying spacex for starlink service in ukraine in the first place very sure other defense contractors get paid much more for much less value the people who want to make elon out to be the bad guy here just want attention

Takes a crazy amount of time to get a gov contract in place and fund it. Not an overnight thing to turn around.

Dawg he inserted himself as captain saver... This will backfire. Opportunism and war profiteering is a tricky game. There weren't any bids, etc. etc. Incredibly Innovative and timely and to be applauded, but misplayed his hand. We need not go overboard.

Either there鈥檚 a contract with DoD or he鈥檚 winging an arrangement with the Ukrainians. The US government doesn鈥檛 do good faith fly-by-night donation silliness for important things specifically because of the risk of people backing out. Elon is being less than forthcoming.

Omg, that poor billionaire Elon Musk. He's only *checks notes* the richest man in the world, how can he survive without that DoD money?

Preview of the dystopia where Musk owns Twitter: Musk blocks all tweets from Ukraine because they won't buy the nation-state licence for Twitter Blue.

The crazy thing is that the DoD would buy Starlink when they have their own satellites. It's fine if Musk wants to provide it as a free supplementary service, but to then cut it off and demand payment is a drug dealer move.
