the crazy thing to me is that the DoD hadn't insisted on paying spacex for starlink service in ukraine in the first place very sure other defense contractors get paid much more for much less value the people who want to make elon out to be the bad guy here just want attention

Elon Musk lies about literally EVERYTHING. We have no outside confirmation SpaceX has donated anything, since the original WaPo article was based on USAID docs that later got corrected and SpaceX’s contribution disappeared. Why trust a liar on anything?

“Insisted on paying” tells me you’ve never read one of the 734,000 rules about spending federal $. There are books on it. Other defense contractors get paid after a strict procurement process. I’m picturing DoD running around like “oh my gosh how do we pay? Sole source? Ahhhh!”

I agree but US taxpayers already paid to develop @SpaceX. We do not have an equity % that matches our contributions and we need to fix that. Meanwhile Starlink is critical military infrastructure that should not be privately owned. #NationalizeSpaceX
