the crazy thing to me is that the DoD hadn't insisted on paying spacex for starlink service in ukraine in the first place very sure other defense contractors get paid much more for much less value the people who want to make elon out to be the bad guy here just want attention

I’m pretty sure it’s because they already pay other contractors that they can’t pay a new one. There is a whole lot of red tape when it comes to bringing similar (even if newer/better) tech in. The other big companies have contracts that keep new faces from coming in.

The DoD should not be the negative focus

Elon tweeted Putin's propaganda and "found out". It's kind of like a billionaire learning a very hard lesson he didn't learn after calling a rescue cave diver a pedophile because he didn't want a SpaceX submarine.

I know you wont see this, but that's not outrage over Elon non twitter behaviour. Problem is his narcissistic attention seeking awkward comments. Comments, that are at times, utterly ridiculous & absurd. He comes across as petty, odd and very poorly thought out. That is the point

I think it shows how dangerous it is to rely on infrastructure from companies run by volatile individuals whose loyalty is unclear.

The US already paid for the hardware to be sent there, the only thing costing Starlink money is bandwidth usage which is a rounding error

Did you spend more than five minutes reading/thinking about this? dod is paying and doing amazing job helping Ukraine, and starlink could be part of that help. But Elon and co jumped in at ukr request and got great rep from it. and now that Ukraine is turning the war around ...
