the crazy thing to me is that the DoD hadn't insisted on paying spacex for starlink service in ukraine in the first place very sure other defense contractors get paid much more for much less value the people who want to make elon out to be the bad guy here just want attention

Elon over time has gone from hero to pathetic.

@elonmusk probably doesn’t offer cushy jobs to retired flag officers like the others do.

Elon set himself up for looking like the bad guy though by tweeting something that could be perceived as pro-Russian beforehand. Like it or not, he primed them to view him as hostile to Ukraine.

El es un ser humano muuy genial, y ya les ayudo bastante. Los que le molestan es porque lo idealizan y quieren que se haga cargo de todos los problemas del mundo. Gente boba nada más.

1. Elon gets a certain amount of hate just because of who he is. 2. A bunch of the hate he recurved was for repeating, almost verbatim, Russian taking points. 2a Russian keeping any land will only lead to more Ukrainians genocide. 2b. The people already had a referendum: Ukraine

I agree that Elon deserves praise, but what do you expect to happen when people, who are suffering a war, hear that Elon wants them to capitulate and then will stop paying for Starlink because an ambassador made a flippant comment. The backlash was predictable.

Elon is made to be the bad guy because he proposed a dumb 'peace' deal a few days before. Had he just asked for the money, most would ignore his request, but the combo of those two statements leaves a bad aftertaste
