boring prediction: the bay area will remain the center of gravity of tech for the next decade. this will be true in spite of an ongoing heroic effort by state and local politicians to kill it.

the AI boom is enough on its own for this to be true, but it seems true for many other categories too. the most impressive technical people seem to be moving here again, and the quality of conversations remains higher than anywhere else i've found.

another prediction: the next few $1T companies that get started will be "in-person first".

This future prediction is based on the past and it's not considering the future. The 1T companies will be decentralized, the founders too so not only located in the bay area.
Agreed. No other single place will ever be the center so the center holds on still

Oh no! Where else where can we possibly develop a 15th app for food delivery that will never make money or some new social media platform with the sole purpose of harvesting and monetizing personal data?!?!? We must protect these vital pillars of society!!

Been in Silicon Valley for >35 years. I think the reign is over. Will still see VCs here, they have big houses. And Immigrant startups, no problem living with 12 others in a 3/2 tract house. But, mainstream tech workers have to leave shortly after starting work. Life too $$$

Boring prediction: It will feel that way to people in the bay area; the decline will happen much more rapidly than that, but no-one will notice.
